The Fak’ugesi Digital Africa Residency, which is now in its fifth year, has grown in leaps and bounds. This year, the residency goes transcontinental. There is an artist chosen from Zimbabwe as well as artists from New Delhi, Geneva and Cairo.

Of course, there is an artist representing South Africa. Nkhensani Mkhari is flying the Mzansi flag high and takes part in this residency that runs from August 8 to September 9.

These artists converge in Johannesburg where they are hosted at the brand spanking new Tshimologong Maker Space and the Wits School of Arts Point of Order Gallery. The artists will be mentored by Marc Lee, who is a respected Swiss artist.

On September 7, Marc will offer a master class that is open to the public. Before that, the residents will partake in a group exhibition on September 4. Fak’ugesi prides itself on being the African Digital Innovation Festival and this is just one way that it aims to show that.

Support for the residency is from Pro Helvetia and the ANT Fund via the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
