Durban – For World Aids Day on Saturday eThekwini City Mayor Zandile Gumede and the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube will join thousands of people in the world to remember multitudes that succumbed to the scourge of HIV/AIDS.
This year’s theme is “Checka impilo. Know Your Status”.
According to the City the day will begin with a visit to families at the New Germany Informal Settlement in Reservoir Hills.
A symbolic march will then start from the Informal Settlement to Siripat Sports Field where the official programme will take place.
Members of the community are urged to take advantage of among others TB screening, HIV testing, pap smear and blood pressure tests that will be conducted on the day.
As a build-up to the commemoration, the Health Unit will host a Mass Mobilization Day on November 30 at the King Dinuzulu Park and nearby taxi rank. Health Care workers will educate members of the public about various health issues. There will also be HIV testing, TB screening and free male medical circumcision. This programme will start at 9 am.
